Neal Kosaly-Meyer

Neal Meyer performs works by John Cage using materials from Finnegans Wake. Writing for the Second Time Through Finnegans Wake (1974) uses Joyce’s name to create a series of mesostics which take us through the entire book in a little more than an hour, abandoning syntax and semantics but retaining and distilling the music and magic of the Joycean language. One7 (1991) is for a solo performer utilizing “any way of making sounds.” The sounds used for this realization are the Ten Thunderclaps — ten one-hundred letter words made by Joyce which provide structural punctuation at crucial points in Finnegan's Wake.

Seattle Rock Orchestra

Pran (Greg Powers + Stuart Dempster)

Pran is trombonist Greg Powers improvising in the Dagarbhani style of Hindustani Music. Powers is the only trombonist in the world performing this ancient style of music as Stuart Dempster holds down the drone on a big brass didjeridu. Powers is a pioneer in adapting Indian music to the trombone. He is a disciple of the Dagarbhani tradition and has studied with Jeff Lewis, Ustad Farid'uddin Dagar, Uday Bhawalkar, Baha'uddin Dagar and Wasif'uddin Dagar in Seattle and Mumbai. As a Fulbright Fellow to India he studied with Ustad Yunus Hussein Khan in New Delhi.

Analog Honking Device - tenor saxophonist Cynthia Mullis, Idaho soprano saxophonist Brent Jensen, Steve Kim (electric bass), Chris Symer (acoustic bass) and Chris Icasiano (drums) - performs music based on the modern jazz repertoire approached with a free and open, improvisatory, experimental aesthetic.
